Filipino Student Success Initiative

Who We Are

The Filipino Student Success Initiative (FSSI) is a student-led and student-centered initiative at Sacramento State.

FSSI creates opportunities for Filipino and Filipino American students to study their histories, build relationships, develop leadership, produce knowledge, and connect their education to the communities of which they are a part.

FSSI recognizes that student success means more than completing a degree. It also includes belonging, cultural affirmation, intellectual growth, access to resources, meaningful mentorship, and the ability to imagine and create better futures for oneself and one’s community.

Our Commitments

FSSI works to:

  • Support the belonging, well-being, and educational success of Filipino and Filipino American students

  • Center student voices in the development of programs and projects

  • Expand opportunities to study Filipino American histories and contemporary experiences

  • Connect students with Ethnic Studies and Asian American Studies

  • Build relationships among students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, and community organizations

  • Support student leadership, research, storytelling, and creative expression

  • Document Filipino American life in the Sacramento region

  • Create programs that emerge from community needs rather than symbolic representation alone
